modernAKIS
Project objective:
modernAKIS aims to improve AKIS actors’ capacities to leverage individual, organizational and systemic resources needed for the transformation towards more coherent, effective and efficient AKIS systems and the transition to a more sustainable management and use of natural resources in farming and forestry. In terms of knowledge transfer and the stimulation of innovative approaches, AKIS strives for good cooperation between research, educational institutions and advisory services in the agricultural sector, which represent important drivers for the development of rural areas and agriculture and forestry.
The Austrian AKIS includes, amongst others, the Federal Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry, Regions and Water Management with its education and research institutes, the nine state governments, ten chambers of agriculture and their district chambers of farmers, numerous research institutes and universities, schools, associations and NGOs.
modernAKIS will build and foster a European network of at least 1.000 key AKIS actors, including AKIS coordination bodies, from all EU Member States, who will act as linchpins in the transformation of the AKIS systems towards a more effective governance and the modernization of the European agri-food sector.
